Best Compresson for Youtube

Page history last edited by PBworks 16 years, 2 months ago

Trying to solve the mystery of getting Youtube to post good Flash compression.

Remember that videos must be under 100mb AND under 10 minutes long.

From SJS productions:

According to YouTube, the best method to upload, is to use mp4 ( or DivX) at 640 x 480.

Compressor in Final Cut Studio 2 has a setting that is H.264 at 640x 480 which is listed under H.264 for IPOD Large. Israel Hymen at Izzyvideos.com uses this setting for his videos. However the extension needs to be changed from m4v to mp4 in order for YouTube to recognize the video. Since Flash is compressing an already compressed file when uploading to YouTube, the quality is not perfect, but better I think than other settings.

However, in my opinion, this compression setting seems to have some trouble with dissolves, so straight cuts are best. If dissolves are needed, I shorten the dissolve time to 10-20 frames. And Flash always seems to work better with a deinterlaced video.

This has given me the best 'look' on YouTube thus far, but I am always experiementing.

I just uploaded a 6 minute video that was almost 2G's uncompressed,

but went to 78 megs compressed. Under the YouTube limit.
